How To Get a Job

June 14, 2008 on 6:07 am | In Attitude |

During the great depression when there were millions of people without work, there was a man who got any job he wanted.  How did he do that?

First in his mind there was no great depression. But he understood the fact that everyone felt a different way, so he decided to approach things from a different angle than anyone else.  If you want to be very successful, you need to be creative. He sat down and he decided where is the place that he would like to work, what kind of job he would like to have. Then, he looked at the employment in a completely different way than the rest of the people. Everyone, he met was complaining that no one wanted to give them a job. They wanted to get a job so badly, but no one was offering them one. On every interview they said, that they would do anything if they got the job. They were focused on getting not giving. Our hero, thought what it is that he could give to his new employer. He realized that the employers were as worried as the people who did not have jobs. Many businesses were closing and they hoped that the new employee could bring something new to their business to turn it around. So, the man studied about the profession he wanted the job in. He learned from libraries, from other businesses that were in that market how their business works and he thought about ideas on how to help the employer who was going to give him the job in his company. Then, he saw himself being the perfect person for the position he wanted. When he went on the interview, with all that he had learned, he was perceived as very knowledgeable about the position and he ended his interview in those words, “And I have a few ideas that can increase the profit in your business and I would like to discuss them with you.” Do you think he got the job? You bet! Every single time.

Who said that? “Don’t ask what your country can do for you, but what it is that you can do for your country.” Yes, it was past American President John Kennedy. Instead of asking what I can get, concentrate on what you can give and see what will happen.

Successful people make decisions quickly and they rarely change them.

Don’t ever play the game: “Do it, don’t do it; go, don’t go; say don’t say.” Make a decision and move on. This also applies to; “Eat, don’t eat.” You know you want that chocolate cake, so make the decision and eat on.

  1. What a great inspiration. I am now learning how to ask that question myself: what is it that I can contribute? How can I enhance the lives of people around me? I know that if I act in love and put good things out they always return to me. So I think we all need to give selflessly before we receive selfishly!

  2. I remember reading that. I know which book you are referring too. Maybe I should do that same thing. However with what I want to do, I must create the job first before someone will work for me.
